It amazes me how one letter can change the entire context of a scenario. Recently, I made a phone call to a company that I had been waiting documentation from. I made a phone call and finally got in touch with someone. She stated that it had been processed and was "pending issue". I heard that it was pending issues and immediately asked her what do I need to do to get it completed and then paused. I asked her if she said "issue" or "issueS"? She said, "issue, it's all good to go" and we started laughing.
The irony, exactly what I teach...how to respond to life's plot twist rather than reacting. Luckily I processed it quickly before the conversation went too far and we got a good laugh out of the situation. I want you to think about how many times have you mistakenly processed the information based upon experiences. It happens all of the time!
An automatic response is based upon what you are used to or have created as a scenario in your mind. This automatic response is also known as your "reaction". Let's pause for a little longer and really hear what the other person is saying. It can save you a whole bunch of flight, fight, or fainting goat from being released.
